14-Year-Old World Series, Purcellville, VA
August 18 -28, 2010
Although it is a great honor to be hosting such an event, it requires a great deal of planning and resources, both financial and volunteer. Babe Ruth policy dictates that all World Series players must stay with host families – a condition for hosting this prestigious event. Therefore, we are looking for host families for the approximately 120 boys coming in from all over the country. You do not need to live in Purcellville, just be willing to ferry the boys to and from Fireman's Field.
As a host family you would be providing an invaluable service for these young men. It is important that the boys have a bed to sleep in and the support of a host family to make their stay here a memorable one. A commitment to become a host family will require you to provide:
A Bed To Sleep In
Clean Uniforms And Clean Kids
Transportation To And From The Field
Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner
Kindness And Caring
In short, these boys will be a part of your family for the time they are here. As you can imagine, hotel accommodations and transportation for such a large number of boys would be costly and a logistical nightmare. In return for your help, you will receive afamily pass for World Series Tournament events and games, hopefully - great memories, and our undying gratitude.
Some other things you should know:
At Least 2 Boys Need To Be Assigned To Each Host Family (You may host additional boys if you have the willingness and available bed-space)
A GLBR Board Member Will Meet With You at Your Home to Go Over the Plan
Boys May Not Need to Be Housed for the Entire World Series Tournament (Early Team Elimination)
